Rainwater moving along a residential gutter

My roof concern

Something does not look right.

You do not need to diagnose the roof. Start with what you noticed, when you noticed it, and what feels different around your home.

Begin with the visible clue

Which situation feels closest to mine?

These examples are starting points, not remote diagnoses. An in-person evaluation is what connects a symptom to the appropriate next step.

Rainwater moving along a residential gutter
01

Water is showing up where it should not.

Ceiling stains, dripping, damp insulation, or water around a chimney or vent deserve attention. Note when it appeared and whether rain or wind was present.

02

A roof detail looks loose, lifted, or damaged.

Missing shingles, lifted edges, damaged flashing, or debris on the ground can help begin the conversation. Photograph only what is safely visible from the ground.

A storm changed something around my home.

Wind, falling branches, or heavy rain may leave visible signs. Stay clear of unstable trees, power lines, wet ladders, and damaged roof areas.

My concern questions

Safety first. Clarity next.

Should I climb up to take a closer look?

No. A wet, steep, damaged, or debris-covered roof can be dangerous. Share what you can observe safely from the ground or inside the home.

Does a ceiling stain always mean I need a new roof?

Not necessarily. A stain is a symptom, not a complete diagnosis. The source, roof condition, flashing, ventilation, and other details need evaluation.

Is this an emergency service?

No. If there is an immediate danger to people or property, move to safety and contact the appropriate emergency service.
